Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Research Engineer within UCD School of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering
Next Generation Energy Systems (NexSys) is an all-island, multidisciplinary energy research programme. NexSys is hosted by the UCD Energy Institute in partnership with eight other leading research institutions: ESRI, DCU, Queen’s University Belfast, NUI Galway, Maynooth University, Trinity College Dublin, UCC, and Ulster University.
46 leading academics work in partnership with industry to tackle the challenges of energy decarbonisation, developing evidence-based pathways for a net zero energy system.
The successful candidate will work as part of the research team investigating the role of renewable energy and hydrogen in the transition to a carbon free energy system. The role involves modelling of integrated energy systems including the hydrogen. Investigating the challenges of transporting and using a hydrogen and in various forms such as Liquidised Hydrogen, Ammonia or LOHC. Evaluate the process and economics of hydrogen production, storage, transport and use for different energy sectors and geographies.
The project will include the mapping of potential renewable energy development locations in Ireland. Identifying suitable onshore and offshore locations with existing or the potential to develop infrastructure (gas/hydrogen and electricity networks). Evaluating the potential roadmaps for hydrogen development in Ireland and how this aligns or differs with others.
Fixed salary: €49,850 per annum.
