The School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures invites applications for a 3-year limited term position in French, at the rank of Instructor, effective August 1, 2020. The area of specialization is the teaching of French language (both written and oral) and intercultural communication.

The teaching duties for this position consist of seven courses in French language and culture distributed over three academic semesters. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain currency in the scholarship pertaining to the teaching of French at the university level and to provide professional service such as course coordination and student mentoring. Participation in other service activities within the School, Faculty and University is also expected.

The successful candidate will have a PhD with a specialization in a relevant area of French Studies, including Applied Linguistics (Second-Language Teaching or Pedagogy, Computer Assisted Language Instruction, or Computer Assisted Language Learning). The incumbent is required to have teaching experience at the post-secondary level, as well as native or near-native competence in French. Evidence of teaching excellence can include teaching assessments, evidence of pedagogical innovation, experience with developing undergraduate curricula and student supervision and mentorship. Expertise in language assessment and/or competence in other languages taught in the School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures, would be a valuable asset. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with colleagues in other language programs at the University of Calgary’s Language Research Centre (http://www.ucalgary.ca/lrc).
