The Einstein Center of Catalysis (EC2) is offering seven scholarships

The Einstein Center of Catalysis (EC2) is offering seven scholarships (which become positions after the first year) for a PhD in Berlin in the field of catalysis (chemical, biochemical). The next deadline for applications is January 15, 2021.

The entry requirements for EC2 are:

  • A Master‘s degree or German Diploma in chemistry, biology, physics or engineering.
  • A Certificate of English Proficiency (TOEFL with a minimum of 79 – ibt -, or equivalent) for applicants whose native language is neither English nor German.
  • Two letters of recommendation.

EC2 offers a structured curriculum for obtaining the degree of “Doctor” within 3 years. The main characteristic of EC2 is a comprehensive integration and mentoring program for its students, especially international students.

It includes:

  • An initial phase, with intensive support, especially for administrative and integration aspects.
  • Preparation of a schedule by the students themselves during the first semester.
  • Continuous supervision by two professors/senior scientists.
  • Regular evaluation of the students’ work/study achievements.
  • Continuous support for all professional and social aspects.
  • Regular lectures presented by renowned guest scientists from all over the world.
  • Language and soft skill courses.
  • Financial support for scientific and teaching materials.

Our center is part of the Cluster of Excellence “-Unified Systems in Catalysis-” (UniSysCat, see www.unisyscat.de), a 13 year old cooperation project between Technische Universitaet Berlin and eight further Institutions in the Berlin area.

The main research interest of UniSysCat and EC2 is catalysis, in a broad sense. The research fields involved cover a broad range of topics, from natural sciences to engineering. The faculty consists of internationally renowned professors and junior researchers from about 60 research groups at nine participating institutions and active in more than 10 research fields, who are intensively involved in the education of the EC2 PhD students.

Candidates should specifie on which project they wish to work. Informal enquiries on specific projects should be directed to the relevant supervisor. Successful candidates should be available to start around October 2021.
