The Alland laboratory at Rutgers-NJMS, Center of Emerging and Re-emerging Pathogens and the Public Health Research Institute, is looking for highly motivated post-doctoral students and research technicians to carry out several projects in tuberculosis and/or COVID-19 research. One position will largely focus on advanced molecular and biochemical assays to detect tuberculosis and/or COVID-19, but may expand to include additional target diseases such as blood stream infections. A second position will focus on novel approaches to understand bacterial drug tolerance and resistance mechanisms to effective TB treatment and to use this new knowledge to develop new TB drugs with increased potential for rapidly curing this disease. Researcher may also be able to contribute to other projects in infectious disease diagnosis and disease pathogenesis according to their skills, interest and to project availability.

The Alland laboratory is composed of highly motivated individuals who are interested in exploring new areas of science and advancing public health. We investigate many different areas of bacterial pathogenesis and diagnostics. Research technicians contribute to all stages of a research project and have the opportunity to present their results at laboratory meetings and co-author papers. Learning, understanding and developing intellectual curiosity are strongly encouraged. Rutgers-NJMS’s located in Newark NJ has a large number of internationally known laboratories with expertise in molecular diagnostics, and contains one of the largest group of tuberculosis investigators in the world.

High motivation, prior research experience in any of a variety of scientific fields, and a Bachelor’s degree in relevant science required.
