The Leiden Institute of Biology (IBL) recruits Assistant, Associate and Full Professors in the major fields of microbial, plant and animal biology

The Leiden Institute of Biology (IBL) studies and teaches microbial, plant and animal sciences with a broad research scope, from molecular and cellular levels to levels of organisms and populations. The IBL has a collaborative atmosphere that is supported by solid expertise focused on four research themes: bioactive molecules, host-microbe interactions, development and disease, and evolution and biodiversity. The guiding principle of our research is to  exploit biodiversity for health. The IBL is a growing institute and wishes to recruit three new group leaders who are, or will become, the future leaders in their field of research. For these new positions, the emphasis is on research themes, bioactive molecules, host-microbe interactions and development and diseases.

Applicants should develop a solid line of independent research attractive to BSc, MSc and PhD students, and have the ambition to compete at the highest national and international level. The research line should be well connected to the research themes of IBL and be complementary and therefore strengthen existing research at IBL. Applicants will actively contribute to the IBL BSc and MSc teaching programs.

Our organization
The Leiden Institute of Biology ( IBL) is an international research and teaching institute in biology which is part of the Faculty of Science of the University of Leiden. Within the institute are the Netherlands Center for Electronic Nanoscopy (NeCEN) and the Science Communication and Society department. The IBL maintains close links with the sister institutes of the Faculty of Science, with the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) and the Naturalis Biodiversity Center (NBC). Our goal is to conduct high quality innovative fundamental and strategic research that contributes to solutions to global societal challenges such as the threat to biodiversity, antimicrobial resistance and the prevention of the development of diseases in humans, animals and plants.
