Postdoctoral Position in bioengineering and microfluidics

At the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research, one of the 86 institutes of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science, physicists, chemists and biologists create knowledge of long-term relevance to life and basic medical sciences.

A postdoctoral position (2 years or longer) is available at the Department of Chemical Biology (Prof. Kai Johnsson) of the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg.

The candidate will join an interdisciplinary team that will develop an integrated microfluidic platform for a new class of biosensors (Science 2018, 361, 1122; Nature Metabolism 2019, 1,1219). The successful candidate will be responsible for the design of microfluidic chips incorporating bioluminescent sensor proteins developed in the Department. These chips, based on paper and/or plastic materials, will be at the center of a novel Point-of-Care diagnostic device for chronic disease monitoring. The project is part of a long-term collaboration (https://www.mr.mpg.de/14432067/snifits4health) with scientists at the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Germany.

Priority will be given to candidates with previous experiences with (paper-based) microfluidics. Experience in bioassays and an interest in technology transfer is a plus.

Informal inquiries can be sent to Prof. Dr. Kai Johnsson (cb.office@mr.mpg.de).
