Position Description

The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2022.

The department is interested in candidates with expertise in operations research and statistical modeling with applications such as human factors in advanced manufacturing, advanced manufacturing system modelling and optimization, quality assurance and uncertainty quantification, reliability engineering, big data analytics, and sustainable manufacturing systems.

We are seeking a candidate who will be a leader in their field, passionate about teaching, support positive learning outcomes and student experience, and add to the diversity of our collegial and vibrant academic community.

The successful candidate is expected to be an emerging scholar with an original, creative, and promising research program, with demonstrated excellence in intellectual and scholarly endeavors. This will be evidenced by scholarly output and research impact that demonstrates the potential for an independent and internationally recognized research program leading to high-quality publications, attracting external research funding, local and international collaboration, and providing an excellent training environment for graduate students and research personnel.

The successful candidate is expected to have a demonstrated ability to develop and teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in the core mechanical engineering program curriculum as well as topics related to manufacturing engineering and product design. You will actively contribute to teaching, curriculum development, graduate student supervision and mentoring, and are expected to provide service in support of the Department, School, University, and Profession. To be eligible for consideration, candidates must hold or have completed a Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or a closely related discipline by the start date. Applicants with relevant industrial experience are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have strong oral and written English communication skills.  All candidates should be eligible for registration as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).

  • Statement of research interests, accomplishments, and vision (up to 2 pages) and one of your research manuscripts (published or under preparation), all combined into one document
  • Statement of teaching philosophy (up to 2 pages)
