Max Planck Summer Internship Program
(MaxSIP) The summer internship program offers highly motivated undergraduate students the opportunity to join one of the laboratories of the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology and the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry . The program will allow you to familiarize yourself with different scientific approaches and laboratory methods. The goal of our internship program is to provide excellent students with a wide range of research experience and knowledge to promote them early in their careers.

You can indicate up to five of our research groups that you prefer to work with. Your research will cover areas ranging from structural biology, computer science, development and cellular to molecular biology, biophysics and neurobiology.

The following groups have already indicated that they will accept interns in 2020: Conti, Cox, Griesbeck, Baier, Macé, Mayer, Murray and Schwille. Applicants are encouraged to include these groups in their application to increase their chances, but should also indicate which other groups may be of interest to them.

Program period
10 weeks
The internship is a full-time immersion of up to ten weeks. It takes place between mid-June and the end of September . In this context, the start date and the duration of the internship are determined by mutual agreement between the host laboratory and the student.
Eligibility conditions (criteria)
- Highly motivated baccalaureate and master’s students in biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, mathematics, psychology and related fields can apply.
- there are no restrictions regarding the qualifications of a potential candidate, applications from highly qualified early career candidates will be given preference.

Successful applicants will receive the following benefits:
- Free student accommodation.
- Allowance of around 800 euros per month.
- Reimbursement of travel expenses to and from Martinsried.
