Description:

The Department of Biochemistry in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full- time tenure stream position in the area of cell, systems or molecular biology. Specific areas of interest include but are not limited to metabolomics, nucleic acid function, synthetic biology, infectious diseases, as well as research incorporating single molecule analysis or computational approaches.

The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an expected start date of July 1, 2022.

 Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Genetics or a related discipline and have at least three (3) years of postdoctoral experience in a related area, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths http://biochemistry.utoronto.ca/. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.

 Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top- ranked and field relevant journals meeting high international standards, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, strong endorsements from referees of high standing and the submission of a research statement explaining short- term and long- term goals and the overarching relevance and novelty of interests.

 Candidates will also be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to excellent teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated by teaching accomplishments, and the teaching dossier, including a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations or other evidence of superior performance in teaching- related activities submitted as part of the application, as well as strong endorsements by referees, to include the candidate’s suitability for undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentorship. Other teaching- related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.

 Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 The Department of Biochemistry in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine is one of the premier academic life sciences departments in the world, with 70 faculty members and more than 250 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The Temerty Faculty of Medicine was recently strengthened by a $250 million donation from the Temerty family. The University of Toronto has one of the most concentrated Biomedical Research communities in the world, including 10 fully- affiliated academic hospitals and research institutes. This community attracts greater than $850M in annual research funding.
