Lakehead University, Orillia Campus, invites applications for a full-time tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Faculty of (Orillia Campus), in the area of Indigenous pedagogies of story and literacies. The academic rank of the appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications of the successful candidate. The position will commence on August 1, 2021.

Preference will be given to candidates with a foundation in Indigenous education, specifically Indigenous pedagogies of story and literacies. Applicants must have completed, or be close to completing, a doctoral degree (PhD). Candidates should demonstrate an ability to teach from Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing and have previous experience developing Indigenous community-engaged programming and curriculum. The successful candidate will be able to contribute to the teaching and development of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, mentor graduate students, and will be supported to establish a research agenda. Experience in teaching in elementary and secondary schools would be an asset. In keeping with its commitment to Indigenous education in the Faculty of Education, Lakehead University (Orillia campus) invites applications from Indigenous candidates who have strong ties with Indigenous communities, and who can clearly articulate their pedagogies for mobilizing Indigenous knowledges to fill a tenure-track appointment.

Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery is highly desired.

The Faculty of Education has 28 full-time faculty members and offers concurrent and consecutive Pre-Service Teacher Education Bachelor of Education (Primary/Junior and Intermediate/Senior), HBEd (Indigenous), BA/BEd (Indigenous Learning Major), Indigenous Language Teacher’s Diploma, Continuing Education, MEd, and PhD programs. The Faculty of Education is committed to working with local Indigenous community partners through innovative, collaborative, and community-based educational initiatives. We are in the process of expanding Indigenous Education at the Orillia campus.

Lakehead Thunder Bay is located on the traditional lands of the Fort William First Nation, Signatory to the Robinson Superior Treaty of 1850.
