Applications are being accepted for a tenure-track position in Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology at the Assistant Professor rank, effective July 1, 2022.

St. Thomas More College invites applications for a tenure-track academic position in the field of Classical and or Near Eastern Archaeology (Levantine, Mesopotamia, and/or Egypt) at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of History, which houses Archaeology. The ideal candidate will have: a completed Ph.D. in Classical and /or Near Eastern Archaeology or a related discipline; experience with field work in the Mediterranean and /or Middle East; experience and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching at the university level; and an active research program. The successful candidate will be expected to engage with colleagues in Classical, Medieval and Renaissance Studies (CMRS), the Museum of Antiquities (artsandscience.usask.ca/antiquities/), and the corresponding department of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Saskatchewan to support student success. Interest or experience with Indigenous archaeology and/or research that makes use of the Canadian Light Source (lightsource.ca) will be an asset.

STM is located on the beautiful University of Saskatchewan campus, close to the new Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre (an Indigenous multipurpose facility and gathering place for members of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal campus communities). The University of Saskatchewan is located on Treaty 6 territory and homeland of the Métis and is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Teaching & Research Expectations: STM is committed to high-quality teaching and research. Successful candidates will be expected to make significant contributions to the teaching and (where appropriate) research missions of the College, to contribute to one or more of STM’s inter-disciplinary programs (Catholic Studies; Critical Perspectives on Social Justice and the Common Good; Classical, Medieval and Renaissance Studies; Jewish and Christian Origins; Ukrainian Studies) according to his/her interest or requirements of the position, and to forge productive links with the corresponding University of Saskatchewan Department of Archaeology and Anthropology. Candidates will be expected to develop an active, externally funded program of research, and to participate in collaborative research in an interdisciplinary environment. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellence or promise of excellence in teaching and graduate supervision.

Salary Band (July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022)

Assistant professor: $98,178 (floor) to $117,978 (CDI ceiling)
