The School of Sociology and Social Policy is a vibrant, diverse and exciting centre for social science teaching and research. We are a multidisciplinary School covering criminology, sociology, public policy and administration, social policy, and social work.

As the School enters a period of growth, building on the rapid expansion of criminology since 2014, we are looking for an enthusiastic senior scholar to join our growing team. The successful applicant will be expected to make a significant contribution to research, teaching and senior leadership in the School. This will include responsibilities within the high-quality education we provide; securing external research funding; high-quality publications and other scholarly activities; and contributing high-quality outputs to future assessments of research excellence. This role will involve leadership and management across the spheres of education and student experiences, research and knowledge exchange and academic administration. Teaching on our very popular undergraduate programmes will be balanced with opportunities to play a leading part in the development of postgraduate teaching and research.

We welcome applications from candidates with interests in any area of criminology. Applications are encouraged from those scholars with an evidenced and successful commitment to high quality research, a strong background in delivering and managing educational programmes at postgraduate and undergraduate level, along with significant experience of academic administration. Roles at this level will have a significant impact on the direction, strategy, objectives, and results of the University by influencing and shaping the available resources as appropriate to meet the current and future needs of the University, the Faculty of Social Sciences and the School. We welcome applicants working in any field of criminology and are keen to develop research and teaching in the following areas: (1) border criminology; (2) feminist criminology; (3) prison health and governance; (4) race and ethnicity; (5) restorative justice; (6) southern, Asian and postcolonial criminology; (7) queer criminology; and (8) victimology.

This is a permanent post for a full-time academic who is able and willing to take on a senior leadership role in research and teaching within the criminology team. People from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to apply as the School is determined to provide an inclusive environment for staff and students.
