University Teacher for Biotechnology
The University of Turku is strengthening its Research and Education functions in Technical fields. We are now looking for innovative professionals, who are interested in building with us a new strategic field to this university. Department of Biochemistry is offering a University teacher’s position in the unit of Biotechnology. The position is open as a permanent employment relationship starting preferably on 1.6.2020, however the starting date is negotiable.
The duties of the university teacher include being in charge of planning and managing of the laboratory exercise courses, and some other teaching tasks related mostly to subject and advanced level studies in the biotechnology major in bachelor degree programme and in biotechnology master’s degree (in technology) programme. In addition the position includes research and administrative work in the field of biotechnology and participation to the development work of the degree programmes.
From the person selected to the position we require knowledge and previous experience in molecular biotechnology and in vitro diagnostics, especially in one or multiple of the following application areas: in vitro assay platforms utilizing biomolecular interactions, cell culture and bioprocess techniques, fermentation and downstream processes, and technical solutions and systems utilized in those.
We hope that you have prior experience in publications and research work and/or you have postgraduate studies and work experience in the biotechnology industry. The applicant’s merits will be assessed by taking into account previous scientific work, insight into research or doctoral dissertation, knowledge of technical sciences and practical knowledge of the task and the scope of study assignments, readiness to guide biotechnology students and student feedback, pedagogical training, the ability to produce educational material and other merits in teaching including a proven teaching demonstration. In addition, excellent knowledge of spoken and written Finnish is required.
The salary is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. For university teacher the salary is at levels 4-6 on the job demands chart, where the task specific salary component is between 2535,20
– 3423,25 euros per month. In addition, a personal work performance component will be paid. The personal work performance component is a maximum of 50% of the task specific salary component. There is a trial period of six months.
