Professor W2 for Plastics Processing

JOB DESCRIPTION

From 1 April 2022, the Department of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Merseburg University of Applied Sciences and the Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems (IMWS) in Halle are seeking to fill the position of Professor in

 Plastics Processing (W 2)

The position will also involve heading up the polymer processing area at the Fraunhofer IMWS, including polymer processing at the Fraunhofer Pilot Plant Center for Polymer Synthesis and Processing (PAZ) in Schkopau.

The position of professor involves a small amount of teaching (4 teaching units per week) on the following courses at Merseburg University of Applied Sciences: Master Polymer Material Sciences, Master Mechanical Engineering | Mechatronics | Physical Engineering and Bachelor Mechanical Engineering | Mechatronics | Physical Engineering.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems (IMWS) is a methodologically oriented Fraunhofer Institute in the disciplines of materials science and materials engineering. The institute develops and maintains core competencies in microstructure analysis and the microstructure-based design of materials and technologies. The IMWS works on adapting the properties of materials and components so that they are best placed to handle the stresses associated with use and deliver optimum performance. For more information visit: www.imws.fraunhofer.de.

The Fraunhofer Pilot Plant Center for Polymer Synthesis and Processing (PAZ) is a joint initiative with the Fraunhofer IAP. It provides state-of-the-art injection moulding and extrusion machines for use in applications ranging from laboratory testing to prototype production. PAZ develops processes to allow optimal material properties to be safely extrapolated to components. The focus is on thermoplastic composite applications and the preparation of rubber composites (www.polymer-pilotanlagen.de).

In addition to meeting the usual statutory hiring requirements, you will also have the following:

  • a university degree relevant to the subject area or a related subject area, plus a doctorate in that field
  • proven expertise in plastics processing, particularly in the key applications mentioned above

The employment conditions as set out in Section 35 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Saxony-Anhalt apply. Remuneration is in line with legal and budgetary frameworks.

Preference will be given to applications from disabled persons with equal qualifications and experience. The Merseburg University of Applied Sciences and the Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems (IMWS) would like to increase the number of women in scientific positions. We therefore strongly encourage applications from female candidates. International applicants are welcome. The main teaching language is German.

Please email your application and the required documentation pursuant to Section 35 (2) HSG LSA (including CV, proof of professional and scientific experience, list of publications and overview of previous teaching activities) in digital form (PDF file) by 15 June 2020 to dekan.inw@hs-merseburg.de or by post to:
