Doctoral Programme “UNIPhD -Training the next-generation talents” at the University of Padua (Italy)

The University of Padua (Italy) has published the global Call for applications “UNIPhD – Eight century legacy of multidisciplinary research and training for the next-generation talents”.

The UNIPhD Doctoral Programme is addressed to the most promising Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) coming to the University of Padua to pursue a brand new International, Intersectoral, Interdisciplinary and Innovative “training through research” experience.

UNIPhD will allow to recruit 50 excellent ESRs, coming from all over the world and from the widest variety of research areas, willing to present a research project in one of the 25 PhD Courses involved, which cover all scientific domains: 8 in Life Sciences (LS), 10 in Physical Sciences and Engineering (PE), 5 in Social Sciences and Humanities (SH), 2 cross-domain PE-LS.

UNIPhD offers oustanding training possibilities with the final goal to foster what will be a “transformative wave” in the regional and national Academic sector.

Each ESR will be exposed to different environments through 2 interdisciplinary, intersectoral and/or international secondments, 1 of which mandatory.

UNIPhD is funded through the MSCA COFUND Action (Doctoral Programme), which aims at co-financing high-quality doctoral programmes based on the transnational mobility of ESRs, and in which academic and non-academic Partner Organizations are involved.

What is funded

An employment contract between the researcher and the Director of the Host Department for the whole duration of the project (“Assegno di ricerca”), which is tax-exempt and includes compulsory social security coverage and social benefits.

The UNIPhD fellow salary amounts anually to €34.920 (gross amount) and comprises: Living, Mobility and Family allowance for students having family obligations at the time of recruitment

Every ESR will have access to a budget covering research, training and networking costs.

Duration

36 months (3 years)

Starting date: 1 October 2022

Eligibility

At the date of the call deadline candidates of any nationality are required to meet the following criteria:

• Mobility. Applicants should not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Italy for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the call deadline.

• Qualification. Applicants should hold a Master’s degree or another academic qualification recognized as equivalent to a second cycle degree in the framework of the Bologna process (e.g. Italian Laurea Specialistica/Magistrale), that grants access to PhD-programmes in the country where the degree was obtained. The academic qualification should be obtained by and no later than 30 September 2022.

• Early Stage. Applicants should not have already been awarded a doctoral degree and must be in their first 4 years (or full-time equivalent) of research experience.

Selection timeline

An open, transparent, and merit-based selection, fully aligned with the Charter & Code policies for researchers’ recruitment, will be guaranteed as to appoint the best candidates. The evaluation process will last 16 weeks. Final results will be published in July 2022.
