About the Position:
The Institute of Cognitive Science invites applications from qualified candidates for a term appointment in Cognitive Science: Artificial Intelligence at the rank of Instructor I beginning August 1, 2020.
The candidate is expected to teach six courses at the first, second, and third year levels in Cognitive Science. The courses will include the following: a first-year introductory programming course (CGSC 1005), a second year introductory Cognitive Science course (CGSC 2001), a third-year course in artificial intelligence (CGSC 3601) and a graduate course in artificial intelligence (CGSC 5001). The position will involve teaching these three courses in each of the Fall and Winter terms. The candidate will also be involved in the activities of the Institute. The candidate will be expected to have expertise in artificial intelligence and computer programming in Python.
About the Academic Unit:
The Institute of Cognitive Science (www.carleton.ca/ics)offers programs at the Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. levels in Cognitive Science to approximately 500 undergraduate and 35 graduate students. Carleton is one of the few institutions in the world to offer B.Cog.Sc. and M.Cog.Sc. degrees. The Institute is a fully- independent academic unit, with dedicated faculty members. It is also supported through cross- appointments from Psychology, Linguistics, and Philosophy, and supervisory contributions from several other units, including Computer Science.
Qualifications:
The position requires a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science or a related discipline, with evidence of excellent teaching potential in cognitive science and/or a related discipline. The position requires expertise in a diverse range of computational tools and methods, such as (but not limited to) programming in Python, machine learning, and cognitive modeling.
