The focus of our lab is on the role of afferents in respiratory control, the mechanisms by which phrenic afferents induce respiratory motor plasticity, and the therapeutic potential of respiratory afferent activation after cervical spinal cord injury. Current studies utilize a multi-disciplinary approach including behavioral studies, neurophysiological preparations, and molecular techniques. |
Duties and Responsibilities | The major responsibility will be to perform in vivo neurophysiology experiments and help develop adeno-associated viral strategies to manipulate respiratory afferent activity. Studies will also utilize plethysmography, histology, and immunohistochemistry. Experience in data management, statistical analysis, and scientific writing is required. Participation in both independent research as well as working on a research team is expected. |
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities |
The competitive applicant will be a highly motivated scientist with a history of research productivity (peer-reviewed publications and presentations), experience working with rodents, a PhD in rehabilitation science, kinesiology, neuroscience, physiology, biomedical engineering, or a related field, and 4 years lab experience working with rodents. Previous experience with in vivo surgical techniques and direct nerve recordings are preferred.
