The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) are re-launching the £3m MOPAC Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Grassroots Fund for 2023 – 25. The MOPAC VAWG Grassroots Fund 2023-25 builds upon the success of the initial £3m fund which was awarded to 41 richly diverse organisations (2021 – 23). The fund will continue to focus on supporting the resilience of organisations working to end Violence Against Women and Girls in minoritised and marginalised communities. Two-year grants of up to £100,000 will be provided, as well as capacity building, networking opportunities and monitoring support.

What can the fund support?

Organisations interested in applying will need to ensure that they meet The London Community Foundation’s core eligibility criteria. It is worthwhile checking this before starting an application. For example, organisations with overdue monitoring with The London Community Foundation will not be eligible.

Eligible organisations are advised to read the Fund Prospectus which outlines the background, objectives and commitment requirements of the MOPAC VAWG Grassroots Fund Programme. The Prospectus is available to download (click on the button below or on the top right hand side of the screen).

The Fund will prioritise;

• Black Minority Ethnic organisations focusing on ending VAWG
• Women's community organisations where delivery services aimed at ending VAWG is the main focus
• Specialist community organisations (e.g. disability rights groups, providing services aimed at ending VAWG)

Size of Grant:

For individual organisations, two-year grants between £30,000 (£15,000 per year) and £100,000 (£50,000 per year) are available. Partnerships of up to three organisations can apply for two-year grants of up to £120,000 (£60,000 per year) for the partnership.

Fund split

A minimum of 60% of funding will be prioritised for led by and for, Black Minority Ethnic specialist organisations. A maximum of 40% of funding is for specialist grassroots community organisations who provide services for marginalised and minoritised groups such as disabled women, LGBTQ+ women, women with no recourse to public funds (NRPF) and women involved in prostitution and exploitation.

TIMELINE

Applications for the 2024 Whitley Awards are currently open and close at midnight GMT on 31 October 2023.

The Whitley Awards are our flagship prizes, presented by our Patron HRH The Princess Royal at a ceremony in London. The Whitley Awards Ceremony will take place in Spring 2024, when winners will be announced during a live event, which will also be streamed online.

Whitley Awards are worth £40,000 GBP in project funding over one year.

Whitley Awards are for dynamic, mid-career conservationists who are leading wildlife conservation projects in the Global South. Winners are nationals of the country in which they are working who are seeking to scale up proven work, that is embedded in the local community and would benefit from further funding, a profile boost and international support. To be eligible, projects must involve communities at the grassroots level and deliver practical action that is founded on science.

It is essential to follow our application guidelines.

Once registered for the application portal, you will be able to login and complete the form online at your convenience. Remember to save as you go! If you close the portal without saving your progress, you will lose your information. Please refer to our FAQs for further information.

As part of the application process you will need to download two documents from the portal: a Microsoft Word template for your logical framework/timeline, and a Microsoft Excel template for your budget. Once you have saved these to your computer, you can work on them in your own time then upload your completed versions to the portal.

The African World Heritage Fund (AWHF) is pleased to announce the Moses Mapesa Research Grant to support African Doctoral and Masters Students in the field of natural and cultural heritage.

The AWHF was launched in 2006 in South Africa to support African State Parties in implementation of the UNESCO Convention of 1972 concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage (World Heritage Convention).

The late Moses Wafula Mapesa (1965-2016) dedicated his career to wildlife conservation contributing immeasurably to the field of natural resource management in Africa. He served as the IUCN WCPA Regional Vice Chair for East and Southern Africa and was the former Executive Director of the Uganda Wildlife Authority.

To encourage young heritage professionals undertaking Masters and Doctoral research in the field of natural and cultural heritage in Africa the Fund set up an annual application for Moses Mapesa Educational Research Grant. This Grant seeks to further research (particularly supporting fieldwork) on issues of conservation, management, and sustainability of World Heritage properties and sites on Tentative Lists in Africa.

PhD and postdoc positions are available in the group of Prof. Stefan Willitsch at the University of Basel (Switzerland) on the development of quantum technologies for single trapped molecular ions and their application in precision spectroscopy.

Project description

In recent years, impressive advances in the quantum control of ultracold atoms and atomic ions have been achieved which enabled measurements with an unprecedented precision. Similarly precise experiments on molecules open up a range of new scientific perspectives including tests of new physical concepts, the implementation of new frequency standards, accurate evaluations of physical theories such as quantum electrodynamics and precise determinations of fundamental constants. They also lay the foundations for applications of molecules in the realm of modern quantum science such as quantum information and quantum sensing.

We have recently developed a new experimental approach enabling the readout of the quantum state of a single trapped molecular ion without destroying the molecule and indeed its quantum state itself. In the present project, the potential of this new method will be harnessed to perform highly sensitive and precise spectroscopic measurements on single molecules. In the project, we will introduce completely new methods for molecular spectroscopy, further develop quantum technologies for molecular systems and establish new limits for the measurement precision of trapped molecules.

Candidates for the PhD positions should have a MSc degree in physics or physical chemistry, preferably with experience in experimental quantum science, quantum optics or spectroscopy. The PhD positions will be embedded in the Basel PhD program on “Quantum Computing and Quantum Technology” (QCQT, https://phdschoolqcqt.unibas.ch/en/) and be part of the Basel Quantum Center (www.quantum.unibas.ch).

Candidates for the postdoc positions should have a PhD in quantum science, quantum optics or atomic/molecular physics, preferably with a background in ion trapping.

The Institute of Human Biology (IHB) is a new research center located in Basel Switzerland dedicated to advancing human biology and the use of human model systems for translational research. Our interdisciplinary and highly interactive research environment bridges academic and pharmaceutical research, connecting biologists, engineers, and data scientists. We are closely associated with Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED) organization, and collaborate locally and with leading academic scientific institutions in Switzerland and worldwide to tackle grand challenges focusing on highly ambitious, complex scientific questions.

We have opened a broad search for Early Career Scientists to establish their own independent and exploratory research program at the IHB with a very competitive funding package. The call is open to mature scientists direct from PhD or Postdoctoral training that will push the frontier of human models system research across three major focal areas:

This fully funded training program is an initiative of the African Union CIEFFA and ImpactHer which aims to provide gender-responsive and cutting-edge curricula that can enhance the skills and capacities of African people in the areas of STEAM, digital literacy, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship, as well as build the capacity of teachers to teach these subjects effectively. The training takes place under the theme, “#AfricaEducatesHer - Digital Skills for All: Bridging the Gender Gap in STEAM, Financial Literacy, and Entrepreneurship”

The pilot phase of the Online Youth Capacity Building Training Program (OYCBT) ended in June 2023 and the next phase begins in August and will run till December. It is open to all who wish to upskill their capacities in Digital skills, Entrepreneurial skills, and financial literacy.

Format of the training:

It is a one-month intensive training programme featuring;

• Digital literacy – 2 weeks
• Entrepreneurship – 1 week
• financial literacy – 1 week

You can choose one or two of these courses to undergo. However, interested participants are strongly advised to apply for all three courses.

La Fenêtre de Réponse Rapide du WPHF finance des services et des actions stratégiques, urgents et à court terme initiés par des femmes œuvrant pour la paix ou des organisations de la société civile dans le but d’accroître l’influence des femmes dans les processus de paix formels nationaux et internationaux. medjouel.com vous informe que La Fenêtre de Réponse Rapide ne finance ni les processus de règlement des conflits au niveau communautaire ni les initiatives de consolidation de la paix à moyen ou à long terme.

La Fenêtre de Réponse Rapide est ouverte à tous les pays éligibles à l’Aide Publique au Développement ayant un processus formel de paix (volet 1 et volet 2) ou mettant en œuvre un accord de paix. The Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) has launched a Rapid Response Window (RRW) to address the funding gap on women’s participation in formal peace processes and the implementation of peace agreements.

The WPHF RRW provides financing for strategic, short term and urgent services and initiatives led by women peacebuilders and women’s civil society organizations to increase women’s influence in national, subnational and international formal peace processes. The WPHF RRW does not support community-focused initiatives and is not intended to fund medium or long-term peacebuilding initiatives.

This new funding mechanism is open to formal peace processes in all  ODA eligible countries with a track 1 or track 2 peace process or implementation of a peace agreement. See definitions of peace process, track 1, track 2 and implementation of peace agreement here.

The WPHF RRW is open to receive proposals for maximum duration of six months through two available streams:

• Direct Support Stream (up to $25,000 USD – this is not a grant and no funding will be provided to the beneficiaries)

The WPHF RRW or RRW INGO partners pay for costs directly so that the required service is provided rapidly. Once the WPHF RRW or RRW INGO partners pay for the service, the CSO/women peacebuilders use the service to support their work on women’s meaningful participation in peace processes or peace agreement implementation. This includes logistical and technical support that would increase the likelihood of a woman CSO representative/woman peacebuilder to actively participate in or influence a peace process or the implementation of a peace agreement — such as the cost of childcare, access for persons with disabilities, interpretation needs, expert advisory support, travels arrangements, etc. Please note that successful applicants receive services, not a grant. Services will be purchased and arranged directly from the WPHF RRW Secretariat or one of its partners on behalf of selected applicants. APPLY FOR DIRECT SUPPORT STREAM

• Short-Term Grants Stream (up to $100,000 USD – the CSO will receive funding)

The WPHF RRW works with a range of INGO partners to deliver rapid grants for women’s civil society organizations’ projects that address diverse barriers to women’s influence and participation in Track 1 or Track 2 peace processes, or the implementation of a peace agreement. Please note that organizations can apply for both Direct Support and Short-Term Grant at the same time. If you are applying for both, you must submit a separate application form using the appropriate templates.

There is no deadline for applications. The RRW is demand-driven and accepts submissions on a rolling basis.
