Position Summary
We invite talented post-doctoral candidates with an interest in cancer genomics, multi-omic data analysis, algorithm design, and/or deep learning to apply for a position in Jin Zhang, PhD, MPHS’s translational genomics lab (https://sites.wustl.edu/jinzhang) at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO. This postdoc will also be co-advised by Michael Waters, MD, PhD (https://www.linkedin.com/in/mike-waters-92a20247/), who will be an Assistant Professor at WashU starting July 2024.
Since joining the WUSTL faculty in 2017, Dr. Zhang has built a lab with an ambitious interest in developing tools and applying cutting-edge bioinformatic and deep learning/AI techniques to advance our understanding of cancer biology and treatment. Our agile, growing research group has been funded by multiple grant awards from the National Cancer Institute, including 2 NCI R01s received last year. We are also extremely proud to be part of the Translational Radiation Oncology Center (TARGET) supported by an NCI U54 Specialized Center grant (https://sites.wustl.edu/translationalradiation/). The Zhang lab currently has 10 members and is looking to expand to 14 in the next year.
The candidate will enjoy significant autonomy while playing a critical role in finding new discoveries and developing advanced genomic and/or deep learning/AI approaches in cancer biology as applied in personalized radiation therapy (RT). The candidate will also lead projects on multi-omics data integration and clinical imaging data integration. We are aware that most of the candidates won’t be immediately an expert on all the above domains in our groundbreaking multi-disciplinary research. The candidate will enjoy significant mentorship from Drs. Zhang and Waters and experienced lab members to develop their domain knowledge and ability to lead research teams, including guidance in career development and transition to an independent investigator. The position also offers an excellent opportunity to conduct research in a supportive and stimulating environment, closely collaborating with computer scientists, biologists, and clinicians within Department of Radiation Oncology and other institutes across the campus, including the McDonnell Genome Institute, Institute for Informatics, and Siteman Cancer Center.

Department Summary
The Cancer Biology Division within the Department of Radiation Oncology consists of a core group of clinical, physics, and computational science investigators who use both archived and prospectively collected tumor samples to ask fundamental questions about radiotherapy efficacy and cancer biology. The Zhang lab and the Bioinformatics/AI Program work closely with clinicians to identify biomarkers that can be used to stratify patients and to identify patients for targeted therapies.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Trains under the supervision of a faculty mentor including (but not limited to):
- Develop hypotheses and design novel genomics and/or data science/AI approaches in translational cancer genomics and data integration.
- Build novel pipelines through developing advanced algorithms and integrating cutting-edge bioinformatics tools using sequencing and other omics data and/or image data.
- Prepare and present results of research in internal seminars and external conferences and journals.
- Assist with grant preparation and reporting.
- Train research assistants in the lab and work with other researchers in applying the informatics tools we develop.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have received, or will receive, a Ph.D. by May 31st, 2024, in bioinformatics, genomics, computational biology, computer science, ML/DL/AI, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with bioinformatic algorithm development and/or bioinformatic data analysis.
- Proficiency in a programming language, such as Python, C++, and/or Perl.
- Proficiency in a statistical programming language, such as R and SAS.
- Experience with scientific computing and data visualization tools.
- Highly motivated with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of current next-generation sequencing technologies.
- Understanding of statistical techniques for differential expression, gene set enrichment analysis, clustering, outcome analysis, and multivariant analysis.
- Experience with Git, Docker, Common Workflow Language, and Cloud computing.
- Deep understanding of concepts and techniques in machine learning/deep learning with Scikit-Learn, Keras, and/or TensorFlow and PyTorch, and/or other cutting-edge AI technologies, including large language model, etc.
Working Conditions
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Salary Range
Base pay is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary
The Sadtler lab in the Department of Chemistry at Washington University in St. Louis is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Research Associate to lead a project on electrolysis in seawater, starting April 2024. This project is a 6-month assignment.
In this position, you will contribute to developing and understanding new electrode materials of interest for stable electrolysis in seawater. This project will include the synthesis and structural characterization of novel electrode materials, characterization of their activity and stability for electrolysis in seawater, and analysis of corrosion mechanisms. The project will take advantage of state-of-the-art instrumentation at the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering (electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction), Chemical and Environmental Analysis Facility (mass spectrometry and porosity analysis), and the Department of Chemistry (absorption and infrared spectroscopy).
In addition to excellent research skills, we are seeking an applicant who prioritizes providing proactive mentorship to students, honing communication skills, and working in an interdisciplinary environment. Lab members will have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers in the Departments of Chemistry and Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Washington University.

The University of Nottingham, School of Veterinary Medicine and Science wishes to expand its veterinary exotics and wildlife team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the development of future veterinary surgeons and veterinary exotics and wildlife teaching by sharing your knowledge and experience to ensure competence and inspire life-long learning.
Primarily based at the Sutton Bonington Campus, working with academics, and clinicians and in the school’s clinical associate veterinary practices you will contribute to the development and delivery of exotics teaching and assessment of relevant subject teaching throughout the course. This will include assisting with the teaching and delivery in the final year on the exotics track rotations.
Additionally, you will assist in the further development the School’s programme of postgraduate training in exotics teaching.
You will have a veterinary degree registrable with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and ideally will have completed a postgraduate clinical qualification in exotic animal practice. You will have experience in working in small animal practice with an exotics caseload or service, and have had experience of an academic environment.

The School of Veterinary Medicine and Science is an established and forward thinking school at the University of Nottingham. We have recently adopted an innovative dual intake system whereby cohorts of 150 undergraduates begin in September and April each year. We are now seeking a Clinical Associate Professor to join our equine team and help to continue to deliver at the same high standard we have become well known for. You will be a key part of our exciting journey, as we continue to push the boundaries and develop a world leading veterinary school.
Working predominately at our Sutton Bonington Campus the post will involve delivering undergraduate teaching and assessment across the curriculum and possibly supervision of postgraduate clinical and research programmes. Provision of a clinical service at one of our clinical associate practices may also be possible. The staff member will play a key role in delivery of an innovative equine curriculum as part of an internationally recognised team of clinical teachers, supporting both undergraduate teaching and learning, and postgraduate education.
Significant experience in equine practice is essential for this role and experience of teaching and assessment in higher education is preferred. MRCVS qualification is required for this post. Postgraduate qualifications in an veterinary clinical practice are advantageous.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) to carry out cutting edge genomics research on malaria vector mosquitoes to be based in Lawniczak Group at the Wellcome Sanger Institute for 3 years fixed term.
About the Role:
Four major malaria mosquito vector species now have over 20,000 short read genomes from samples collected across the African continent. These data have revealed both extraordinary genetic connectedness between geographically distant populations and even species, but they have also revealed that some populations remain genetically distinct. We observe interesting regions of the genome that likely have structural variation, but short reads aligned to a single reference genome are insufficient to understand these genomic regions. We are now able to routinely generate long read data from single individual mosquitoes.
This project will leverage on the knowledge we already have regarding geographical population structure in An. gambiae, An. coluzzii, An. arabiensis, and An. funestus to study long read genomes from individuals from each species from across their range. We anticipate 100-200 long read genomes per species to gain a pangenome understanding of genomic patterns and differentiation in these important species. There will also be opportunities to return to the short read data that exists for 1000s of indivdiuals and explore this using a graph genome that you will create.
We have other projects in the lab focused on secondary malaria vectors and other important fly species (e.g. pollinators) and there will be multiple opportunities to collaborate on projects. Currently, the pangenomes project is focused on geographic spatial variation in Africa, but there may be opportunities to add in a temporal component to explore how variation changes over time, especially in response to malaria control interventions.
You will be responsible for leading the pangenome analyses for all four species and shaping additional data generation plans based on findings. You will also play an important role in developing digestible and informative data visualisation for researchers and colleagues (e.g. National Malaria Control Programs).
The role is primarily an analytical and computational role, though there may be some wet lab work required on occasion. For example, we are also pursuing the potential to capture full-length transcriptomes for each specimen we generate long read data from.
About You: You will have a strong interest in genomes and malaria and in the application of DNA to infectious disease monitoring and elimination. You will be creative and dedicated to making maximal use of the samples and the resulting data to benefit malaria vector research while carrying out interesting evolutionary genetics research.

Applications are invited to join the social work team in the School of Sociology & Social Policy at the University of Nottingham. The Centre for Social Work offers Social Work England (SWE) accredited undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes and is an active member of the D2N2 Social Work Teaching Partnership.
We are looking for someone who is educated at least to Masters level, a qualified social worker and registered with SWE. The successful candidate will have responsibility for developing and delivering teaching on modules and Skills Days to students on our BA and MA Social Work programmes. They will be required to assess undergraduate and postgraduate student assignments. They will also be expected to provide tutoring, teaching and assessment across the social work programmes. We are looking for someone who can draw on their experience of social work practice in teaching to integrate theory and practice. In addition, this role includes involving people with lived experience in teaching and assessment.

Detailed Description
We are looking for talented and highly motivated individuals to contribute to teaching and research in Aerospace Engineering, as part of the Institute of Mechanical, Process & Energy Engineering (IMPEE), School of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS). You will have evidence of developing an international research portfolio and should possess a clear research vision in Aerospace Engineering and related areas. The applications should concern research and/or teaching experience in Aerospace Engineering with specialisation on Space topics. You will have opportunities for the development of an independent research portfolio, in collaboration with our existing research groups across the School.
You will also be involved in teaching and learning activities in the Mechanical Engineering discipline of the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS) at the Edinburgh Campus, delivering and assessing undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at our Edinburgh campus in collaboration with colleagues at our overseas campuses in Dubai and Malaysia.
Key Responsibilities
Work activities will vary according to the requirements of the job and individual areas of teaching and research responsibility, however general responsibilities are typically, but not restricted to, the following:
- Leading and engaging in research and actively contributing to the university’s research profile, including managing, and supervising and mentoring research-active staff where appropriate.
- Actively pursuing research funding through the submission of high-quality grant proposals.
- Establishing collaborative research and teaching links outside the university via funding councils, industry, business, and public bodies.
- Developing cross-Research Institute, School, University, and external research links and networks, with a view to maximising research funding opportunities and associated activities.
- Contributing to School, Institute and research group strategic planning where required, as well as carrying out general research administration.
- Publicising research through the preparation and submission of journal and conference papers and participating in academic conferences.
- Representing the institution in a professional capacity, particularly with regard to research dissemination and development e.g. conferences, meetings, with industrial partners, etc.;
- Supervising and mentoring undergraduate students, postgraduate students and research associates’ research work.
- Teaching through the delivery of lectures, tutorials and laboratories, assessing the relevant students’ work as well as setting and marking examinations and coursework.
- Designing and developing teaching materials and new teaching methods, using personal research to inform teaching where appropriate.
- Carrying out general academic administration, including participation on committees and exam boards, taking responsibility for key discipline-specific administration tasks and mentoring students.
- Undertaking continuous professional development (CPD) and participating in staff development activities.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
Essential Criteria
- First degree in mechanical engineering, electrical or chemical engineering (or a closely related discipline)
- PhD within the area of Aerospace or related engineering (e.g. Mechanical Engineering)
- Demonstrated research portfolio within the field of Aerospace Engineering
- Demonstrated initiative in obtaining research funding.
- Research portfolio complementary to Heriot-Watt’s approach to impact-led projects.
- Demonstrable track-record of high-quality research published in internationally renowned journals.
- Evidence of teaching and assessment of undergraduate and graduate engineering students in aerospace engineering topics, with priority given to Space topics such as space propulsion, space vehicles, space systems and space dynamics
- Evidence of general academic research leadership (can be initiating joint proposals, influencing colleagues to work in teams, etc.)
- Effective and engaging communicator
- Good oral and written presentation skills.
Desirable Criteria
- CEng or working towards CEng status
- Demonstrates evidence of willingness to be involved in collaborative research.
- Demonstrates willingness to participate in international delivery of programmes.
- Evidence of leadership of research teams, including successful supervision of PhD students and managing post-Docs.

The Sanger Excellence Fellowship also includes research consumables of up to £18,000 per annum, dependent on the nature of the project and a budget of £1,500 per annum for you to attend conferences and training.

There is flexibility with the start date, but you should be able to start by the end of December 2024.
The Fellowship runs for three years and can be worked full-time, part-time or flexibly.

APERÇU
PROBio-Africa (Promouvoir les opportunités de recherche pour les biochimistes en Afrique) est une coentreprise entre la FEBS, l'IUBMB et la Fédération des sociétés africaines de biochimie et de biologie moléculaire (FASBMB).
Le programme de bourses PROBio-Africa permet aux doctorants et aux boursiers postdoctoraux de passer jusqu'à six mois (1 à 6 mois) dans le laboratoire d'un scientifique d'un pays FEBS* qui appartient à une société constitutive de la FEBS.
De cette manière, les lauréats auront accès à des technologies et à une expertise qui ne sont peut-être pas facilement disponibles dans leur pays d'origine, leur permettant ainsi de développer leur savoir-faire et leurs compétences et de contribuer au renforcement des capacités dans les sciences de la vie moléculaire dans leur pays.
*Un « pays FEBS » est un pays d'Europe et des régions voisines qui possède une société constituante FEBS (une société nationale qui appartient à la FEBS).
Admissibilité
Les candidatures sont les bienvenues de :
- les étudiants officiellement inscrits dans des programmes de doctorat dans des pays africains et affiliés au FASBMB (via leurs sociétés nationales correspondantes) pour de courts séjours (1 à 6 mois) afin de mener des travaux de recherche faisant partie de leur thèse de doctorat.
- Boursiers postdoctoraux africains et nouveaux chercheurs (pas plus de 5 ans après l'obtention du doctorat) affiliés au FASBMB (via leurs sociétés nationales correspondantes) afin de réaliser des expériences nécessitant des techniques et une expertise particulières ou de faciliter d'autres formes de collaboration scientifique ou de formation avancée. .
APPEL À CANDIDATURES 2024
La période de candidature commence le 1er mars et se termine le 1er mai 2024.
Les documents suivants doivent être fournis en anglais :
- Une proposition de recherche d’au plus deux pages, à simple interligne, indiquant clairement :
- un aperçu du projet et une description du type d'expérimentations à réaliser,
- la justification de la visite d'un laboratoire particulier pour réaliser les expériences plutôt que de les réaliser dans le laboratoire du demandeur,
- la justification de la période requise demandée.
- Un budget dans lequel toutes les autres sources de soutien, qu'elles soient accordées ou demandées, doivent être mentionnées. Toute budgétisation doit être en EUR.
- Le court curriculum vitae du candidat et une liste de publications selon le modèle fourni (pour les doctorants : tout relevé de notes académique disponible).
- Le certificat d'adhésion du candidat attestant de son affiliation au FASBMB ( via la Société nationale correspondante) au moment de la candidature.
- Preuve de maîtrise de l'anglais (ou de la langue officielle du laboratoire d'accueil)
- Une lettre de recommandation du superviseur du doctorant, du mentor du boursier postdoctoral ou du chef du département de l'établissement du candidat, dans laquelle les avantages de la bourse sont soulignés.
- Une lettre d'accord du chef du laboratoire d'accueil (et du chef de l'établissement, le cas échéant), déclarant la volonté d'accepter le candidat. La lettre doit indiquer comment l'institut d'accueil contribuera aux coûts de la visite (par exemple, les consommables, les frais de banc ou les frais de subsistance supplémentaires).
- Une liste des articles publiés par le superviseur d'accueil au cours des cinq dernières années et des projets en cours dans le laboratoire.
- Une attestation d'adhésion de l'encadrant attestant de son affiliation à la FEBS (via la Société nationale correspondante ).
Tous les documents demandés doivent être soumis sous forme d'un seul fichier pdf (dans l'ordre mentionné précédemment) et envoyés à l'adresse e-mail probio-africa@febs.org au plus tard le 1er mai 2024.
Condition des récompenses :
- Des bourses seront accordées pour compenser les frais de voyage vers/depuis et les frais de subsistance dans le pays FEBS du laboratoire hôte pour la durée de 1 à 6 mois de la visite de recherche.
- Les bourses seront accordées pour un montant maximum de 7 000 EUR (environ 2 000 EUR pour les frais de voyage et 5 000 EUR pour les frais de subsistance).
Important : l'argent sera transféré au boursier après son arrivée dans le pays d'accueil.
- Les frais de voyage couvriront les billets d'avion en classe économique, les frais accessoires directement liés au voyage, les tarifs des bus locaux vers et depuis l'aéroport et les frais de visa.
- Les bourses ne couvriront pas l'assurance maladie, l'assurance contre les dommages ou les frais de recherche dans le laboratoire d'accueil.
- Le voyage doit commencer dans les six mois suivant l'attribution de la bourse. Il est prévu que des fonds de contrepartie appropriés soient disponibles auprès des laboratoires accueillant les doctorants/boursiers postdoctoraux ou les nouveaux chercheurs pour couvrir leurs frais de subsistance lors de séjours plus longs.
- Les candidats aux bourses sont tenus de faire une déclaration complète de tout autre soutien reçu dans le cadre de la visite proposée. Une bourse ne peut pas être utilisée pour compléter des visites scientifiques autrement entièrement prises en charge.
- Les prix ne couvriront pas les cours, colloques, réunions ou congrès.
- Les candidats doivent être résidents de pays membres du FASBMB et affiliés au FASBMB (via leurs sociétés nationales correspondantes) et doivent être doctorants, boursiers postdoctoraux ou chercheurs dans les cinq ans suivant l'obtention du doctorat (exceptions dûment justifiées dans la candidature, dans les cas où les études ont commencé plus tard, ont été retardées par un congé de maternité (18 mois par enfant), une maladie prolongée ou d'autres raisons personnelles).
- Dans les 3 mois suivant la fin de la bourse, les boursiers doivent envoyer un rapport scientifique écrit (pas plus de 2 pages) signé par le superviseur d'accueil et le boursier, ainsi qu'un rapport budgétaire (comprenant des copies de tous les reçus couverts par la bourse). Les lauréats doivent indiquer le soutien du programme de bourses IUBMB/FEBS/FASBMB PROBio-Africa dans tous les résultats (présentations à la conférence, publications, etc.).
Assistance
Une liste des laboratoires de la zone FEBS souhaitant accueillir des doctorants et boursiers d'Afrique est disponible sur le site de l'IUBMB ici afin que les candidats puissent contacter directement les laboratoires.
Si le demandeur préfère contacter un laboratoire non répertorié (jusqu'à trois laboratoires), la FEBS peut aider à le contacter après avoir reçu et examiné les documents suivants du demandeur (envoyés à probio-africa@febs.org ).
- Une lettre de motivation avec les coordonnées complètes (y compris une adresse e-mail officielle) du ou des superviseurs d'hébergement potentiels du candidat.
- Le court curriculum vitae du candidat et une liste de publications selon le modèle fourni (y compris un relevé de notes officiel de l'établissement pour les doctorants).
- Preuve de maîtrise de l'anglais (ou de la langue officielle du laboratoire d'accueil).
- Le certificat d'adhésion à l'une des sociétés constitutives du FASBMB au moment de la candidature.
- Une lettre de recommandation du superviseur du doctorant, du mentor du boursier postdoctoral ou du chef du département de l'établissement du candidat, soulignant les avantages de la bourse.
La demande de cette aide doit être adressée au moins un mois avant la date limite de l'appel.
Sélection des lauréats
La sélection des lauréats sera basée sur les éléments suivants :
- qualité scientifique de la proposition de recherche
- la lettre de recommandation du superviseur du doctorant, du mentor du boursier postdoctoral ou du chef du département de l'établissement du candidat
- le CV du candidat, y compris les publications
- un relevé de notes officiel de l'établissement du candidat (pour les doctorants)
- une preuve de maîtrise de l'anglais (ou de la langue officielle du laboratoire d'accueil)
- productions scientifiques, y compris les publications du superviseur d'accueil
- expertise scientifique, environnement de mentorat, infrastructure disponible et disponibilité de fonds de recherche dans le laboratoire hôte, pour couvrir le plan de recherche proposé.

Founded in 2009, the Women in Aerospace (WIA) Foundation, Inc., is a nonprofit, tax-exempt educational organization created with three missions:
- Increase public awareness of the importance and benefits of the aerospace field.
- Increase public appreciation for aerospace science and technology.
- Inspire those who identify as female students to develop the skill sets required to innovate and assume leadership roles in the development of technology in the aerospace field.
The Foundation partly accomplishes its purpose by providing scholarships to those who identify as women who study engineering, math or science at the undergraduate level, and thereby (i) encourage women to enter careers in the aerospace field, (ii) expand women's opportunities for leadership in aerospace, and (iii) increase women's visibility in the aerospace community.

WIA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
The WIA Foundation is pleased to provide scholarships to those who identify as women, who are interested in a career in the aerospace field to pursue higher education degrees in engineering, math or science. Four merit-based awards of $5,000 each will be given to rising juniors and seniors in college, to be applied to the 2024-2025 academic year.
To be eligible for the WIA Foundation Scholarship, an applicant must be interested in pursuing a career in the aerospace field and be a rising junior or senior working towards a bachelor’s degree in engineering, math or science. An applicant must have completed at least two and a half academic years of full-time college work at the time of application and must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in the United States or its territories, and plan to be enrolled in the subsequent academic year. Each applicant must have a college grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must identify as female, and be a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident. Applications will be available around mid-February for the subsequent academic year.
