The 2020 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) is released today by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy. Since 2003, ARWU annually presents the best universities in the world based on a transparent methodology and objective third-party data. He has been recognized as the forerunner of world university rankings and the most trusted. This year, the 1000 best universities in the world are published.
Harvard University tops the ranking for the 18 th year. Stanford University and the University of Cambridge are respectively No. 2 and No. 3. The other universities in the top 10 are MIT (4 th ), Berkeley (5 th ), Princeton (6 th ), Columbia (7 e ), Caltech (8 th ), Oxford (9 th ) and Chicago (10 th ). In continental Europe, the University of Paris-Saclay (14 th ) becomes the best in his first appearance at the ARWU followed by ETH Zurich (20 th ). The University of Tokyo (26 th ) Maintains its leading position in Asia, and Tsinghua University (29 th) ) exceeds Kyoto University (34 th ), becoming the second best among Asian universities. The University of Melbourne (35 th ) leads other universities in Oceania.
Six universities make their first appearances in the Top 100, four French, namely the University of Paris-Saclay (14 th ), the University PSL (36 th ), the University of Paris (65 th ) and the University Grenoble Alpes (99 th ) and two Chinese, namely the University of science and technology of China (73 th ) and Fudan University (100 th ). Beijing Jiaotong University and 14 other universities enter the Top 500 for the first time. More than 40 universities enter the Top 1000 for the first time.

Universities in the United States dominate this year’s Top 1000 with 8 universities in the Top 10, 41 in the Top 100, 133 in the Top 500 and 206 in the Top 1000. China has 168 universities in the Top 1000, of which 81 are in the Top 500, 6 are in the Top 100. The UK has 65 Top 1000 universities, and 36 of them are listed in the Top 500, 8 are listed in the Top 100.

Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) : Since 2003, the ARWU presents annually the best universities in the world on the basis of a set of objective indicators and third-party data.
