The Assistant Director, Buildings & Grounds oversees the maintenance and operations of physical plant associated with the building, grounds, and municipal services for the University’s Burnaby Mountain campus, providing support to the Vancouver and Surrey campuses as required. The incumbent develops annual plans and programs to meet the needs of both annual maintenance and operations and deferred maintenance requirements; develops and manages the annual operating and capital project budgets; and supervises the execution and administration of plans, programs, and associated budgets. The incumbent participates in the preparation of design standards for use in all buildings and municipal work undertaken by Facilities Services, and provides advice and guidance on the maintenance and operational requirements for new facilities. The Assistant Director provides leadership to administrative and professional, technical, and trades personnel.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Architecture or Engineering and a related professional designation with eight years related experience, including experience managing buildings and grounds in a large facility and providing financial, staff, and capital project leadership; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of building and municipal science.
  • Excellent knowledge of infrastructure upgrading projects and building systems maintenance.
  • Good knowledge of the BC Building Code, BC Landscape Standards, and WorkSafe BC requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent leadership, strategic planning, and financial management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
