Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a full time, tenure-track faculty position to serve as the Managing Director of the new BRIDGE Centre at the Edwards School of Business. The faculty appointment will be tenure-track at the rank of assistant professor within the Department of Management and Marketing. The appointment as Managing Director would be for a 5-year term with the possibility of renewal. The anticipated start date for this position is January 1, 2024.

Description and Qualifications

BRIDGE: Business Research Integration and Development Group at Edwards is a newly formed provisional centre at the Edwards School of Business. The mission for the BRIDGE knowledge centre is to strengthen connections between researchers, industries, businesses, and community partners. We will do this by conducting research that BRIDGEs the gap between theory and practice; fostering impactful research and knowledge co-creation that focuses on the role that research can play in advancing practice; developing relevant research and providing knowledge exchange through industry and community forums aligned with our school’s core research areas; providing research support; and engaging in meaningful collaboration with communities. Ongoing activities are proposed including a Research Network Hub, knowledge translation through various events and forums to engage industry and community and graduate student and post-doctoral mentorship. Our vision is to be the first knowledge centre in Saskatchewan that is recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in responsible, relevant business research that connects researchers, businesses, and communities.

The Managing Director will be responsible for managing the operations of the centre and will be guided by the Managing Committee. Initially, the focus will be on establishing the foundation for the centre and working closely with the Associate Dean Research to be the driving force in moving the status of the BRIDGE centre from provisional to full. The Managing Director’s duties will include overseeing the research centre’s budget; supervising staff members; managing the research plan effectively and efficiently, ensuring that accepted standards of research ethics are met; managing the space needs of the centre; establishing working groups or committees to provide appropriate guidance and advice in support of their responsibilities; preparing an Annual Report for the Dean. The Managing Director will have a reduced teaching load approved by the Dean to recognize the significant administrative duties required of managing a centre.

The successful candidate will have research centre experience, preferably directly with aspects of centre management and/or coordination. Knowledge of research administration and research infrastructure at a university is important for this role. The successful candidate will also have experience working closely with industry to build research connections as well as to disseminate research results. Experience with community engagement and partnerships will be an asset.

We are seeking candidates who have a teaching and research background in any management discipline. Special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise in management research methods. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. The successful candidate will teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses in management and related fields, for example research methods and market research, technology and innovation; supervise both graduate and undergraduate student research; initiate, lead and participate in research activities; apply for external funding to support their research program; publish and disseminate research results; and undertake relevant administrative activities, including meetings and committee work.

Consistent with AACSB accreditation requirements, the Edwards School of Business seeks individuals whose academic training and scholarly activities clearly align with the AACSB standards. Candidates must satisfy the category of Scholarly Academic qualifications. Scholarly Academics sustain their currency and relevance through academic scholarship and related activities. Candidates require a doctoral degree in an academic area clearly linked to the field in which they are expected to teach. The ideal candidate will have an interest and ability to engage in scholarly activities as evidenced by a strong or emerging research program in marketing; demonstrated effective classroom teaching skills and mentorship; and effective interpersonal and communication skills.

The salary band for Assistant Professors in the 2023-2024 academic year is $99,945 to $120,099. A higher starting salary is possible in exceptional circumstances pursuant to Article 18.2.6.12 of the USFA Collective Agreement.
