  • full time (40 hours/week)

Main tasks:

  • conducting original research in the field of Computational Political Science with a focus on big data (e.g. text data, image data, video data, social media data, or geolocation data);
  • employing innovative methods (such as network analysis, machine learning, natural language processing, or text mining) and/or developing new methods;
  • participating in the activities of the Digital Science Center (DiSC) and other research areas and research centers of the University of Innsbruck, in particular the research area “Economy, Politics, and Society (EPoS)”;
  • teaching courses on Computational Political Science in the BA, MA, and PhD programs in Political Science at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences as well as in the Digital Science Center program and in other study programs at the University of Innsbruck;
  • teaching and supervising theses;
  • participating in (inter)national professional networks in political science (e.g. ÖGPW, ECPR, EPSA);
  • contributing to academic administration.

Required Qualifications:

  • completed PhD (degree in political science is not a requirement);
  • continuous research in the field of Computational Political Science with a focus in big data, demonstrated by publications in high-standing journals with (double-blind) review and listing in  Web of Science;
  • excellent knowledge of methods for Computational Political/Social Science;
  • excellent knowledge in the realm of Open Science;
  • relevant academic achievements since the PhD thesis;
  • several months of professional experience as a post-doc researcher;
  • experience in applying for and carrying out third-party-funded projects;
  • experience in post-graduate academic mobility;
  • didactic competence (demonstrated by student evaluations);
  • ability to work in teams;
  • proficiency (C1) in English and German (or willingness to reach C1 level in German within a five-year period);
  • applications have to include comprehensive research and teaching concepts;
  • applications have to include the names and contact details of at least two academic referees.

Career model / Tenure Track:

The advertised position enables a continuous scientific career up to an associated professorship. The core of the career model is a so-called qualification agreement. Salary:

The minimum gross salary (stipulated by collective agreement) for this position amounts to € 4.352 per month (14 times). This increases to €5,124 gross per month (14 times)* when the qualification agreement is signed and again to €5,546 gross per month (14 times)* when the qualification goals are met.
