Lakehead University, Orillia Campus, invites applications for a full-time tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education (Orillia Campus), in the area of Social Foundations of Education. The position will commence on August 1, 2021.
Preference will be given to candidates with a strong research and teaching background in social studies curriculum, the pedagogy, history, philosophy or sociology of education, or with an emphasis on intercultural education.
Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery is highly desired.
Candidates must have completed, or be close to completing, a doctoral degree (PhD). Experience in teaching in elementary and / or secondary schools is an asset. The successful candidate will be able to:
- Contribute to the teaching and development of courses relevant to social studies, social sciences, and intercultural education at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
- Develop a relevant research program in the broad area of social foundations of education, that includes applying for internal and external research grants; and
- In line with Lakehead’s Strategic Plan and Research Plan, bring vision to foster local and global partnerships including relationships with Indigenous partners.
The Faculty of Education has 28 full-time faculty members and offers concurrent and consecutive Pre-Service Teacher Education, HBEd (Indigenous), BA/BED (Indigenous Learning Major), Indigenous Language Teacher’s Diploma, Continuing Education, MEd, and PhD programs.
Lakehead Thunder Bay is located on the traditional lands of the Fort William First Nation, Signatory to the Robinson Superior Treaty of 1850. Lakehead Orillia is located on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg, who include the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Pottawatomi nations, collectively known as the Three Fires Confederacy.
