Clinical Bioinformatics Lead

TMCP is accountable for bringing clinical development compounds across all therapeutic areas to the early clinical development milestone of Proof-of-Clinical-Principle by applying state-of-the-art biomarker and translational approaches.
The Clinical Bioinformatics and Systems Pharmacology team of Boehringer Ingelheim is looking for highly motivated scientists. Our team is part of Digital TMCP (Translational Medicine & Clinical Pharmacology), a newly established global function with a key focus on improving disease, biomarker and drug understanding through advanced data analytics, including machine learning, omics data integration and classical bioinformatics methods. This way, we support clinical development programs with critical decision-making and digital approaches for biomarker applications.

Tasks & Responsibilities as (Senior/Principal) Clinical Bioinformatics Lead

  • As Clinical Bioinformatics Lead, you support drug development projects in the transition from research to clinical development and up to clinical phase III.
  • To support our clinical drug development programs, you provide bioinformatics and data science expertise to cross-functional teams composed of e.g. translational medicine scientists, research scientists, clinicians and statisticians.
  • As a subject matter expert, you ensure the best use of pre-clinical and clinical omics data sets to support the implementation of biomarker strategies and to enable a better characterization of compounds and patient populations.
  • By using state-of-the-art advanced data analytics approaches, you integratively analyze and visualize complex and large-scale multi-omics data sets.
  • By developing and establishing new advanced data analysis strategies in the field of omics data, network biology and machine learning you aim to push boundaries to increase disease, biomarker and drug understanding.
  • With your expertise, you ensure the application of appropriate quality standards (e.g. GCPGDPR and respective documentation).

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Data Sciences, Molecular Biology or a related Life Sciences degree combined with proven experience in the field of Computational Biology and in the advanced analysis of omics data
  • Excellent oversight on state-of-the-art computational biology and data science methods and data sources to support drug development programs with a focus on increasing disease and biomarker understanding to e.g. characterize patient populations
  • Experience in the analysis of complex biomarker data sets like gene expression data from mi/m/to/scRNA-Seq or nCounter (NanoString), germline as well as somatic mutations/aberrations, proteomics, metabolomics and imaging data
  • Demonstrated programming skills
  • Profound knowledge of quantitative data analysis and statistics including machine learning
  • Experience in NASH, PF-ILD or Oncology is a plus
  • Strong goal- as well as team-oriented working style, excellent organizational and communication skills as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills
