Operations and Maintenance is looking for a Life Safety Systems Technician. Reporting to the Electrical Manager, the Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, programming of fire alarms, gas detection, emergency phone systems, and network fiber cabling. The Technician will also be responsible for the documentation required to maintain records on these systems. Working with the Life Safety Systems team, this position will provide system specific technician and installation support.
This position has a requirement that includes you being a part of an on-call rotation.
Duties
- Respond to and correct system failures which can result from wiring faults, device failures, panel component failures or incorrect programming
- Troubleshoot panels and program systems to correct faults or to modify functions as required by changing building requirements
- Conduct ongoing testing to ensure proper operation of life safety systems through annual inspections of all fire alarm systems and various functional testing required by site conditions
- Oversee system testing of newly installed systems in new buildings, ensuring that installation meets the University of Alberta’s requirements
- Maintain all life safety systems documentation to current conditions/configurations
- Support internal project electrician with in-house installations. This would involve system isolations, consulting record drawings, explaining system functions and wiring methods, inspecting new installations prior to connection to the main systems and making those final connections
- Provide input and system planning in coordination with electrical staff and Project Managers
- Respond to after-hours emergency calls
Qualification
- 2 year Technical Diploma in Engineering Technology of equivalent program
- Alberta Fire Alarm P-Ticket or CFAA Certification
- Minimum 5 years experience in installations and maintenance support of fire alarm systems or other low voltage processor controlled systems
- Experience with operation and configuration of computer operating systems
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, basic computer networking an asset
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google programs
