The Communication Officer, oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of formal engagement and socialization strategies and frameworks for enterprise IT at SFU. The Officer ensures that the enterprise IT messaging frameworks align with the overall University communications strategy, and produces programs of activities that support clear and consistent messaging and engagement both within and from enterprise IT; and provides direction and guidance for socialization programs in support of enterprise IT’s key messages and services. Within the departments under the CIO’s portfolio, the Officer provides strategic socialization expertise to the CIO, the CIO Leadership Team, and both enterprise and local IT staff. Provides business analysis and design guidance in support of departmental socialization processes and engagement strategies. The Officer is an active member of the CIO Leadership Team, routinely deals with confidential information, acts as a champion and spokesperson for the One I.S. Vision at SFU, and coordinates and collaborates with University Communications, Safety and Risk Services, other campus departments, and relevant stakeholders as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, or a relevant discipline with six years of related experience, including experience in an IT environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of socialization, promotion, and marketing practices, and strategies.
  • Excellent knowledge of print and electronic media, desktop publishing applications; and web, wireless, and content-management technologies.
  • Good knowledge of formal-project management techniques and practices.
  • Proficient in the use of desktop applications, online content management systems, social media platforms, design and web development software applications and technology, and collaboration tools (e.g. Microsoft Office, Adobe Illustrator and InDesign, Adobe Experience Manager, HMTL, Microsoft SharePoint, and Slack).
  • Excellent team leadership skills.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and ability to consult, advise, and support clients at all levels of management.
  • Excellent analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal, written, and presentation), research, copyediting, and copywriting skills.
  • Ability to develop and execute stakeholder engagement strategies and plans.
  • Ability to develop and deliver strategic socialization plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement organizational development and culture changes, with a focus on a culture of service excellence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to write a variety of communications for print and web publication.
  • Ability to develop a social media communication plan.
  • Ability to interact productively and professionally with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgement, diplomacy and discretion, and to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to supervise and manage multidisciplinary staff.
  • Ability to function effectively in an environment of multiple simultaneous and competing demands.
