The Faculty of Health Sciences at Western University, invites applications for up to two (2) Limited-Term faculty positions for a two-year duration at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor in the School of Physical Therapy. The workload for the Limited-Term position is 80% teaching and 20% service for applicants with a master’s degree or 70% teaching, 10% research, and 20% service for applicants with a doctorate. Rank and salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024, or as negotiated.

In addition to an entry-to-practice physiotherapy degree, applicants will: 1) have completed a master’s or doctoral degree in a related field; 2) have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; and 3) be registered with, or be eligible for registration with, the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. The successful applicant will also have a demonstrated capacity to contribute substantively to an inclusive and diverse academic community.

Preference will be given to applicants with previous university-based teaching experience, relevant clinical experience, and capacity to teach in the evidence-informed Master of Physical therapy (MPT) Program. The majority of workload will be assigned in teaching. The selected appointees will demonstrate a strong teaching philosophy consistent with the School’s and MPT Program’s values.

The School of Physical Therapy is a research-intensive unit with innovative professional and graduate programs. The School is home to the Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) program. The MPT program at Western is dedicated to being internationally recognized for excellence, leadership and innovation in Physical Therapy education, practice and research through dedicated clinical, academic, research and professional partnerships. The program prepares students to seek licensure to practice physiotherapy in Canada in a wide range of practice settings. The School leads three fields of study in the Master of Clinical Science in Advanced Healthcare Practice program including: Comprehensive Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Interprofessional Pain Management and Sport and Exercise Medicine; and leads the Physical Therapy Field in the MSc and PhD programs in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, including the combined MPT/PhD program.

The School of Physical therapy is a dynamic, interdisciplinary, inclusive, and collaborative research-intensive environment. Physical Therapy research aligns well with Faculty and University strategic investments, including Western’s Bone and Joint InstituteThe Brain and Mind Institute and the newly established Gray Centre for Mobility & Activity within St. Joseph’s Health Care Parkwood Institute. The School has three research Chairs and has strong clinical and academic partners within the London community with international recognition for research (e.g., St Joseph’s Health Care London and the Hand and Upper Limb Centre and the Gray Centre for Mobility and Activity). The School also has active research links with the four Research Centres in the Faculty, including the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging, the Centre for Research in Health Equity and Social Inclusion, the National Centre for Audiology, and the International Centre for Olympic Studies.
