While the deadline to apply is January 20, 2023, applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The primary research areas focus on international relations and political economy in the Asia-Pacific region (including Northeast Asia), as well as on contemporary issues concerning the Korean Peninsula and US-ROK alliance. Appointment begins in the 2023 spring semester and could be extended to the 2023-2024 academic year based on research performance of the selected postdoctoral fellow. The fellowship is limited to recent PhDs: applicants cannot be more than five years past the awarding of their doctoral degree when the fellowship starts. The Postdoctoral fellow is required to be in residence for the duration of the appointment and to take part in the Korea Studies activities throughout the appointed term. The fellow will also be required to present his/her research findings in seminars and to actively participate in the Korea Studies’ program. The postdoctoral fellowship is a 6-month appointment with a salary of approximately $37,500, with an additional research-related travel expense support. Fellowship Requirement:

  • Residence in the metropolitan D.C area during the fellowship period is required;

The School of Computing and Augmented Intelligence (SCAI) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for a postdoctoral scholar position in the area of augmented intelligence. We define augmented intelligence broadly as computer science research that lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence and human reasoning. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, artificial intelligence, machine learning, human-computer interaction, visualization, database systems, and cybersecurity.

Presidential Postdoctoral Fellows will be directly integrated into SCAI where they will work directly on interdisciplinary research with a diverse group of faculty, students, and industry partners who collaborate on projects to solve real-world computing problems. We will target areas of expertise that add to SCAI’s strategic research (Computing and Augmented Intelligence) focusing at the intersection of Computer Science and Industrial Engineering and enhance the inclusive culture in SCAI.

We seek applicants who will contribute to our programs and expand collaborations with existing faculty at ASU. Primary job duties will include:

  • Advancing research and developing a research agenda appropriate for a tenure-track academic position. This includes publishing peer-reviewed articles, presenting research at national and international conferences, and pursuing research funding.
  • Pursuing teaching and/or other educational opportunities such as co-teaching, delivery of seminars, or other creative mentoring activities.

The postdoctoral scholars selected will join a cohort of 10-15 other postdoctoral scholars at ASU as part of the Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. The goal of the program is to support the career development of outstanding Ph.D. recipients with great potential for advancing the ASU Charter into a future tenure track appointment at ASU.

The program seeks applicants whose professional preparedness, experience, and accomplishments are informed by experiences working with and within groups historically underrepresented in higher education in the United States. Where pools of qualified applicants are strong, priority will be given to applicants who demonstrate, through prior actions and achievements, intentional and actioned commitment to inclusiveness.  Examples of such contributions are research or creative activity focused on empowering underserved populations; teaching, mentorship, and service that increases equitable access; and inclusion in fields where historically excluded populations are underrepresented.

Description The Dean's Teaching Fellowship Program of the Office of the Dean of Arts and Sciences is designed to foster innovation in the undergraduate curriculum, give advanced graduate students experience teaching their own undergraduate courses, and provide funding for graduate research. This prestigious fellowship allows graduate students to grow as educators and scholars by allowing them to propose, design, and offer an undergraduate seminar course. We are pleased to introduce two new options for this year's competition to students applying for the DTF. Aiming to foster innovation and community outreach, the DTF program will reserve several fellowships for specific pedagogical experiences:

  • Community-Based Learning Courses . Community-based learning (CBL) is a pedagogical model that engages students, faculty, and Baltimore City Co-Educators (Community Partners, e.g., nonprofit and civic agencies) in coursework and community engagement that supports academic learning objectives and Community Co-Educator needs. Taught under the auspices of the Center for Social Concern, these courses will follow the structure of the CSC's Engaged Scholars Program . Grad Fellows will participate in the program's training (beginning August 2024) to co-teach a course with a member of the local community in Spring 2025. For examples of syllabi for community-based learning courses, consult Syllabi Library | Campus Compact . Applicants interested in this option should contact Luisa De Guzman at CSC to discuss their plans. Their course proposals need a letter of endorsement from the CSC.
  • Digital Humanities Courses : These courses are designed to allow graduate students to extend their research into their pedagogy and introduce undergraduates to the intersection of computational and humanistic scholarship. Applicants considering this option should contact Sam Backer at the Center for Digital Humanities to discuss their plans. Their course proposals need a letter of endorsement from the CDH.

Qualifications DTF courses may be offered as advanced undergraduate seminars or lower-level undergraduate seminars. Applicants who intend their course to satisfy the “writing-intensive” requirement (which will change next year to Foundational Ability #1: Writing and Communication) should make sure to meet these criteria: https://krieger.jhu.edu/writing-program/curriculum/. Before preparing an application, students should consult with their departmental Director of Graduate Studies, Director of Undergraduate Studies, and Chair to assess the department's interest in the proposed course and ensure that it aligns with departmental teaching needs. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF APPLIED AND ENVIRONMENTAL MICROBIOLOGY

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the Faculty of Science at The University of British Columbia in Vancouver seeks candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to start no earlier than July 1, 2024. Applicants conducting research in the areas of microbial physiology, metabolism or ecology are encouraged to apply, including research focused on the discovery, cultivation, isolation or engineering of microorganisms with diverse and important metabolic capabilities. Research with applications that strengthen Canada’s natural resource sectors or facilitate climate adaptation or mitigation will be favorably considered. The ability to teach courses in the areas of environmental microbiology, microbial physiology or microbial ecology will be considered an asset.

The position requires a PhD, postdoctoral experience, and a strong record of research achievements and publications in this field. The successful applicant will be expected to develop an innovative, externally-funded and internationally-competitive research program; supervise graduate students and postdoctoral fellows; collaborate with faculty members; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in microbiology; and participate in service to the department, university, and academic/scientific community. The successful candidate will become a member of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology (mbim.ubc.ca). The Department includes 25 research faculty with strengths across the disciplines of microbiology, virology, and immunology including microbial genomics, data science, functional screening, microbial ecology, as well as bacterial metabolism and physiology. The successful applicant will establish their laboratory in the Life Sciences Institute (lsi.ubc.ca), which houses 85 laboratories across 10 departments, providing ample opportunity for cross-disciplinary collaborations. The new hire could be part of the multi-faculty BioProducts Institute (bpi.ubc.ca), which brings together interdisciplinary researchers comprised of scientists, engineers, and market and policy experts to unlock the full potential of materials, chemicals and fuels produced in Nature. The new hire will have access to outstanding core resources for acoustic liquid handling and microfluidics, high-throughput screening, cell sorting, plurality and single-cell sequencing, microscopy, metabolomics, and proteomics.

Next Generation Energy Systems (NexSys) is an all-island, multidisciplinary energy research programme. NexSys is hosted by the UCD Energy Institute in partnership with eight other leading research institutions: ESRI, DCU, Queen's University Belfast, NUI Galway, Maynooth University, Trinity College Dublin, UCC, and Ulster University.
46 leading academics work in partnership with industry to tackle the challenges of energy decarbonisation, developing evidence-based pathways for a net zero energy system.
The successful candidate will work as part of the research team investigating the role of renewable energy and hydrogen in the transition to a carbon free energy system. The role involves modelling of integrated energy systems including the hydrogen. Investigating the challenges of transporting and using a hydrogen and in various forms such as Liquidised Hydrogen, Ammonia or LOHC. Evaluate the process and economics of hydrogen production, storage, transport and use for different energy sectors and geographies.
The project will include the mapping of potential renewable energy development locations in Ireland. Identifying suitable onshore and offshore locations with existing or the potential to develop infrastructure (gas/hydrogen and electricity networks). Evaluating the potential roadmaps for hydrogen development in Ireland and how this aligns or differs with others.
Fixed salary: €49,850 per annum.

We are looking for a researcher in Robotics for a fixed-term position at the School of Natural Sciences and Technology.

Subject area

The subject area for this position is Computer Science with a specialization in robotics, with a strong connection to machine learning, physics simulation and computer vision.

Background

The position is placed with the Centre for Applied Autonomous Sensor Systems (AASS) at the School of Natural Science and Technology, a unit comprising over 70 researchers and doctoral students working on problems in artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning and human-machine interaction. The position is tightly coupled to the ongoing Vinnova project Automation for Face Drilling, funded through the strategic innovation program “Swedish Minining Innovation.” The recruited researcher will work on industrially relevant problems in collaboration with partners in the project.

Duties and responsibilities

The researcher is expected to take a leading role in the project, communicate and engage with industrial partners, perform research, and develop software modules. They are expected to lead technical development and conduct research activities, including publication of results in conference and journal venues.

Qualifications

Those qualified for the appointment as a researcher are applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree.

Assessment criteria

Candidates holding a doctoral degree in Computer Science or a very closely related field are eligible for this position. The successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated abilities to conduct independent research, verified through a strong publication record at leading journals and conferences in robotics. An ability to communicate clearly in scientific English is a must. Familiarity with relevant machine learning and robotics software frameworks is another obligatory criterion for employment. Prior experience working with the AGX dynamics physics simulation engine is strongly desirable. Additional prior experience working on problems within machine learning for physics interaction is a plus, as is a track record in working with depth or laser sensors.

A general basis for assessment is that the applicant is able to demonstrate the personal qualities required to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities at hand; that they are able to cooperate with other members of staff; and contribute to the development of university operations.

The successful candidate is expected to have good communication skills and be capable of maintaining a time plan and a research direction. The candidate should be comfortable working in a team and interacting with external partners. This position is expected to focus entirely on research and no teaching assignments are foreseen.

The LUT School of Engineering Sciences is looking for a junior research assistant for a project that focuses on surface modification of filtration membranes via UV grafting of natural phenolic compounds. The job is part of the PheMeMo project funded by the Research Council of Finland.

The job includes the implementation of laboratory work together with the project team and reporting on the results. The results of the work can be used in master’s thesis. The work can be reported either in Finnish or in English.

What we expect

A junior researcher assistant is expected to have a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or chemical engineering or a similar chemistry-related field. Good oral and written English skills and motivation to promote the research in the field of green chemistry are considered an advantage.

Employment and salary

The research work is carried out at the Department of Separation Science on Lappeenranta campus. The work is full-time, and the employment relationship is fixed-term of months, starting preferably in the beginning of November 2023. A trial period is half of the duration of the employment relationship.

a Postdoctoral Researcher (2 years)

to join in the NMR Research Unit at the Faculty of Science.

We are an internationally established, combined experimental and theoretical team of about 30 people, of which 50% with a PhD degree. We develop experimental, theoretical, and computational research methods based on magnetic resonance phenomena and apply those methods to topical problems in molecular and materials sciences. Our strength is in the tight connection between state-of-the-art measurements and calculations. We have an open and encouraging working atmosphere and have a substantial track record in successful funding applications both at the Academy of Finland and in EU programs.

CPU-intensive computational research is carried out in the facilities of the national supercomputer center (CSC)as well as in the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) supercomputer LUMI. Local Linux cluster belonging to the Finnish Computing Competence Infrastructure (FCCI) are used for high-throughput production calculations.

Subject field and description of the positions

The postdoctoral position is a part of the Academy of Finland research project: NMR parameter modelling of porous materials:relativistic, dynamic, and environmental effects led by University Researcher Perttu Lantto.

The project aims to develop efficient approaches to model NMR parameters in large molecular systems at real physical conditions. This is achieved by combining state-of-the-art quantum chemical (QC) methods at relativistic level for heavy-element containing systems with atomistic molecular dynamics (MD) simulations utilizing modern semi-empirical and machine learning (ML) approaches. The work is carried out in close collaboration with local and international experimental NMR researchers, where modeling is essential part providing predictions and microscopic interpretations of experimental observations. As a post-doctoral researcher, you will focus on developing QM/MD/ML-methods for large length- and time-scale simulations in new porous materials. The developed approaches will have great impact on materials NMR studies.

Required qualifications and assessment

You must have a completed doctoral degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related field, and show a visible scientific profile. We expect you to have experience in first principles modelling and/or MD simulations. Also, some knowledge of ML potentials in atomistic simulations is an asset. Strong computer experience including basic Linux/Unix knowledge, shell scripting, and mastery of at least one relevant programming language (e.g., Python, Fortran, C/C++) is required for success in the project.

Fluent English, good communication and teamwork skills are required. Further, demonstrated potential in acquiring supplementary (extramural) funding, and teaching experience will be taken as a merit when choosing the scientist. When assessing the applicant’s qualifications, issues to be considered will include scientific publications, thesis supervision, activity in the scientific community, practical familiarity with the field in question, scientific work abroad, and other international activities.

As part of the NMR Research Unit, the duties include supervising scientific research of BSc, MSc and doctoral students. In addition, participation in teaching within the physics curriculum and acquiring research funding are naturally expected.

Salary

The position is fixed term for 2 years starting from 1.1.2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The salary will be based on the levels 5-6 of the demand level chart for university–level teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50.0% of the job-specific component). The salary is thus in practice roughly 3700–4300 € per month (before taxes), depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.

A six-month trial period will be effective in the beginning of the two-year contract.

Project description

This doctoral project aims to gain in-depth insights from patients and their families at home about their individual needs for effective management and care of their wounds while being advised and supported by healthcare professionals. The focus is on a person-centred approach, where individual needs and preferences are paramount. To achieve this, a comprehensive mixed methods research design will be used. The project will collaboratively develop and produce a novel self-management framework. This framework will serve as a robust guide for individuals who are responsible for self-care of their wounds in their own homes. This project is located within the field of nursing science, specifically within the remit of the Swedish Centre for Skin and Wound Research (SCENTR). Locating the project within this specialised research centre underlines the Centre's commitment to advancing the field of wound care and improving the quality of life for patients and their families who self-care for their wounds at home.

Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by Professor Dimitri Beeckman, Dr. Malin Karlberg-Traav (Örebro University), and Professor Georgina Gethin (University of Galway, Ireland).

The programme and the doctoral studentship

The doctoral programme consists of courses and an independent research project that you will present in a licentiate thesis. The programme concludes with a licentiate degree and comprises 120 credits, which corresponds to two years of full-time study. The programme length may possibly be extended and conclude with a doctoral degree if funding can be secured.

Our ambition is for your doctoral studies to be stimulating and purposeful throughout the programme until you have obtained your [doctoral/licentiate] degree. A thorough introduction will therefore get you off to a good start and provide a solid foundation on which you can build your studies. Description de l'offre

L'objectif du projet est d'identifier de nouveaux mécanismes permettant d'exploiter pleinement les spécificités de la supraconductivité des ondes D pour un couplage dynamique ultrarapide avec le magnétisme. Le résultat attendu est d’ouvrir des perspectives de transport de spin non dissipatif sur de longues distances, protégé par une cohérence supraconductrice. L'ingénierie des interfaces et l'anisotropie DOS de certains supraconducteurs à haute Tc, ainsi que la division de spin des bandes électroniques dans certains aimants compensés spécifiques font partie des leviers qui seront utilisés pour favoriser l'émergence d'états triplets polarisés en spin des paires de Cooper. Le candidat travaillera dans le cadre d'un projet collaboratif (SUPERFAST) financé par l'Agence nationale de la recherche (ANR). Le projet est porté par le consortium suivant : UMR CNRS/Thales Paris région, SPINTEC Grenoble, LSI Paris région et LOMA Bordeaux. Le candidat effectuera la nanofabrication, le magnétotransport, ainsi que l'analyse et l'interprétation des données, pour étudier l'injection, la propagation et la détection de paires de Cooper dans des hybrides supraconducteurs/antiferromagnétiques et supraconducteurs/alternaimants. Le candidat rejoindra l'équipe spintronique antiferromagnétique du laboratoire SPINTEC (laboratoire de spintronique et de technologie des composants) - spintec.fr/antiferromagnétique-spintronique/

Critère d'éligibilité

Description de l'offre

Les travaux de thèse seront co-encadrés par Benoit Cottereau (directeur de recherche au laboratoire CerCo) et Nicolas Cuperlier (professeur assistant au laboratoire ETIS). Elle sera réalisée à Toulouse (laboratoire CerCo, UMR 5549), en collaboration avec les laboratoires ETIS (UMR 8051) et IPAL (IRL 2955 à Singapour), ainsi qu'avec l'Université Nationale de Singapour (NUS). Le doctorant sera amené à collaborer avec des chercheurs, ingénieurs et étudiants de ces différentes entités. Il/elle sera inscrit à l'école doctorale CLESCO ( https://www.univ-tlse3.fr/comportement-langages-education-socialisation… ) dans la spécialité 'Neurosciences, comportement et cognition'. Titre : Modélisation des réponses neuronales lors de la navigation dans des systèmes biologiques à l'aide de réseaux de neurones à pointe Description de la thèse : l'objectif de ce projet de thèse est de modéliser le traitement de l'information spatiale lors de la navigation dans les systèmes biologiques. Cette modélisation sera réalisée à l'aide de données collectées par des caméras basées sur des événements et des réseaux neuronaux de pointe. L'objectif sera de reproduire des données (neurales et/ou comportementales) observées chez différentes espèces de mammifères. Le candidat sélectionné devra souhaiter travailler sur un projet interdisciplinaire combinant les neurosciences computationnelles, la neurobiologie et l'informatique. Il/elle doit également avoir une solide formation en programmation et en intelligence artificielle, de solides connaissances théoriques sur le système nerveux et un bon niveau d'anglais.

Description de l'offre

Le projet ANR ANISOFILM vise à développer un procédé d'ultrafiltration tangentielle combiné à une réticulation sous rayonnement ultraviolet (UV) pour produire des films composites biosourcés innovants aux textures anisotropes contrôlées allant des échelles de longueur nanométriques à micrométriques. Les films minces nanocomposites seront conçus à partir de nanocelluloses (nanocristaux ou nanofibres), associées à des particules induisant des propriétés fonctionnelles comme les nanotubes de carbone multicouches conducteurs, ou des propriétés barrières comme les argiles naturelles. Les applications dans les secteurs de la microélectronique, du packaging et de l'optique sont ciblées. Le stagiaire postdoctoral sera impliqué dans l'étude structurale et des propriétés barrières (gaz, vapeur d'eau) de nouveaux films hybrides basés sur l'effet de synergie d'orientation entre les nanocristaux de cellulose et les nanoparticules d'argile (1D : nanotubes d'imogolite ; 2D : nanofeuilles de smectite). Certains de ces films ont déjà été produits dans la première partie du projet ANR. Le postdoctorant pourra également être amené à synthétiser certains des films hybrides. L'objectif principal sera d'étudier les propriétés d'organisation structurale de ces films hybrides anisotropes en relation avec leurs propriétés fonctionnelles (mécaniques, optiques ou barrière). Pour cela, le postdoctorant réalisera des mesures de diffusion des rayons X aux petits angles (SAXS) et aux grands angles (WAXS) sur les installations du Laboratoire de Physique des Solides (UPSaclay) et du laboratoire PHENIX (Sorbonne Université). Des mesures des propriétés barrière à l'oxygène et à la vapeur d'eau seront réalisées en collaboration avec le Laboratoire LGP2 de Grenoble. En particulier, les propriétés mécaniques seront évaluées par des essais de traction dans le sens de l'alignement et perpendiculairement à celui-ci. Des mesures complémentaires par microscopie optique/électronique ou par rayonnement synchrotron seront également mises en œuvre. - Synthèse/purification et caractérisation de nanofeuillets et nanotubes d'argile - Etude structurale par expériences de diffusion des rayons X aux petits et grands angles - Analyses de données et simulations - Mesures des propriétés barrière à l'oxygène et à la vapeur d'eau, propriétés mécaniques - Rédaction de propositions et participation à des expériences synchrotron Les travaux seront réalisés principalement au Laboratoire de Physique des Solides (Saclay) en collaboration avec le laboratoire Physicochimie des Electrolytes et Nanosystèmes Interfaciaux (Paris). Il y aura également des missions avec le Laboratoire Génie des Procédés Papetiers (Grenoble) et sur des instruments à grande échelle. Le postdoc sera encadré par Erwan Paineau (LPS) et Laurent Michot (PHENIX). Des échanges réguliers seront mis en place avec les autres laboratoires du consortium, qui apporteront leur expertise et leur soutien respectifs.
